Olympic View Golf Club Set to Host the 2015 PGA of BC Pro-Junior Championship

15th July, 2015
Richmond, B.C. (PGA of BC) – On July 20, 2015, 18 teams will tee off at Olympic View Golf Club in Victoria, B.C. at the 2015 Jack McLaughlin Memorial PGA of BC Pro-Junior Championship. Each team features a PGA of BC professional, along with three junior members from their respective facility.

The 2015 field consists of teams from across the province, including former champions Seymour Golf & Country Club (2001, 2012), Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club (2002, 2006), The Vancouver Golf Club (2010), The Redwoods (2011), and Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club (2013). Competing facilities local to Vancouver Island include Olympic View, Bear Mountain, Nanaimo Golf Club, Glacier Greens, Royal Colwood, Uplands, and Alberni Golf Club.

Pros will be playing for a split pot of $3,000 based on the amount of birdies and eagles made.

The always popular event amongst both Professionals and Junior alike will feature a two-person team net best ball format, where the Professional’s gross score may count towards the team. Juniors who have participated in the event have ranged from six years old, all the way up to eighteen year olds on their way to college golf scholarships.

The PGA of BC Pro-Junior is named in memorial of the late Jack McLaughlin, a long-time member of the Association. During his career, McLaughlin was a tireless promoter of junior golf and an influencer of young, aspiring professionals. He worked as the Head Professional at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club from 1974 – 1991, and also held the position of President of both the PGA of Ontario and BC in 1963 and 1976, respectively. In 1984, McLaughlin was the Director of the PGA of Canada.

ABOUT PING
PING designs, manufactures and markets a complete line of golf equipment including metal woods, irons, putters and golf bags. The family-owned company was founded in 1959 in the garage of the late Karsten Solheim, a mechanical engineer with an extensive background in the aerospace and computer industries. His frustration with his putting inspired him to design his own putter, which created a "pinging" sound when striking a golf ball. This sound was the source of the name now synonymous with innovation, quality and service throughout the world of golf. Solheim and his company are credited with numerous innovations that became industry standards, including perimeter weighting, custom fitting and the use of investment casting in the manufacturing of golf clubs. Today, the Phoenix-based company is under the direction of Solheim's youngest son, John A. Solheim. PING game-improvement products can be found in more than 70 countries.
